Class A: Language and Vocabulary Work

We start with a reading and a listening practice followed by comprehension activities and exercises to exploit the language and vocabulary they contain.

The reading and listening material is also used to present the language, the functions and grammar to be taught. This class is a preparation for:

Class B: Grammar and Oral Work

As mentioned before, our main objective is that the student becomes communicatively competent. Consequently, grammar is taught in so far as it’s necessary for him to get his message across effectively. So, after a brief grammar explanation, we have all the necessary elements for oral practice and we devote more than an hour to practicing conversation.

This means that, if, for example, he has to learn how to ask for directions, the relevant grammar is explained and then, after a range of graded activities, the student is ready to engage in a conversation in which he has to ask for and give directions.

However, it all depends on the student. A person with an advanced level might want to concentrate mainly on the speaking skill. So classes will be designed differently to this layout to suit his needs.
Pronunciation is important and even vital to be understood, so pronunciation practice is included. But don’t panic! Correct pronunciation takes time and using the right language and vocabulary into the correct structure is what matters most.

Materials

Students will have a core course book and corresponding compact disc for listening and pronunciation practice, but extra material is provided by the teacher.

Both course books and extra material are up to date and include current events, articles of interest to the student, news, cultural tips, travel and tourism, history, etc.

In the listening practice students are exposed to a variety of Spanish language accents from different countries but, again, this depends on the level of the student. At a beginner’s stage, he needs to focus only on Río de La Plata Spanish accent.
